The interviews here were done while I was at the University of Missouri-Columbia. http://lisradio.missouri.edu/LISRadio is still alive and well, and searching the archives will produce a lot of perspectives besides mine.

I have edited out some material here- we were attempting, in early shows, to do a live call-in talk show format that never really quite jelled. So I have taken out various phone numbers (that probably don’t work) and email addresses, at least one of which definitely doesn’t work, that are in the content still at Missouri.

Some of the early shows are pretty crude in terms of sound quality, and smooth management of the technology involved. We got better as things progressed, particularly after doctoral student Jennifer Crispin started managing the technical end of things. It was nice to have somebody with actual radio experience on board.

Interview with James L. Nelson

The guest is James L. Nelson, or as I have known him for several years, Jim. Jim started life as a sailor man in square-riggers on the great waters. Marriage and progeny convinced him that perhaps a shorebound existence was preferable. He has written a good deal of fiction, and non-fiction as well. Jim is always fun to talk to, and his sense of humor does show up in his books. Jim’s website is http://www.jameslnelson.com/

A Student Conversation

What we were attempting to do here was get students from the three courses I was teaching at the time to call in and discuss various issues. The most thought provoking class (I hope) was one titled Social Constructs of Information based, at least in part, on the writings of Antonio Gramsci and his theory (or theories) of cultural hegemony. The first caller was a former student of mine from Arizona, and I had put her up to making the call, fearing that unless somebody started, nobody was going to call in
